Pen and Paper

Today as I was feeding the baby, I had the thought that I should follow Peyton around with pen and paper to record all the funny things he is saying these days. It's so easy to forget them just a few hours after they happened.

Here are three from our morning:

The first occurred as I was feeding the baby in our room. Peyton was at the kitchen table eating breakfast by himself (Gavin was already done). I had lit a candle on the counter because the electrician was going to be turning off our power and it was (and still is) a very dreary, rainy day. All of a sudden Peyton starts saying, "Hi, candle. Hiiii, candle." And higher like he's talking to a baby, "Hi, candle." Then, "I can smell the candle." Does he honestly think it is a living being? I need to start burning candles more often.

Gavin was learning how to make a pictograph in Math. Peyton kept asking me to make him a "cicodaph". I'm not even completely sure how that should be spelled. Maybe "kickodaph"?

Gavin had to draw each family member's face on a circle for the graph. Peyton wanted to be involved (as was already obvious from above), so I let him draw his face. He began with a little straight line - his "eyebow". He added a second one. Then he said, "Chubby cheeks." I don't think he knew quite how to draw those because he didn't draw anything. Then he drew dots for his eyes. I had to remind him of his nose and mouth. But he remembered "eyebows"!

I've thought the same thing about Savannah and Josiah. Unfortunately, I haven't been as good about recording their little sayings as I used to be. Thanks for the reminder. BTW, I really like your new blog look. It's both summery and fall-like at the same time!

So I guess it should be kicodaph? Thanks for the spelling rule - somehow I missed that one!
