Learning to Read

Yesterday I got out the phonics ladder book to work on some sounds with Gavin. We did some two letter blends, then I decided to try some three letter words.

We got to the word nut, so I said, "This is a food." I then sounded out the letters, "n"-"u"-"t".

Gavin's reply - "Chicken?"

I couldn't help but laugh.

Ha-ha! I know I need to start all that phonics stuff with chloe but I'm not looking forward to it. Do you like the book you're using?

By the way we had some of your ABWE pals over this weekend - Scott & Tara Dunford. I've known Scott forever (since I was 16) and we had a fantastic visit! I didn't realize you guys were with abwe too. Sounds like such a professional and well run missions board.

I am so happy for the Dunfords! They are a great couple and I know the Lord will use them greatly on the field.

We are currently working through the A Beka workbooks. We are pretty far behind, but what we have done Gavin has picked up pretty well. There is also a book called, "Learning to Read in 100 Days" or something similar. We did some lessons in that, but their approach and A Beka's approach are different, so I decided I had to do one or the other.
