So as not to break tradition, baby boy #3 decided to send us to the hospital between 32 and 34 weeks just as his brothers before him did.
I had two rough nights last week, but tried to calm things down by going to the bathroom and getting drinks of water. I really did not want to go in to the hospital because I knew they would put me on bed rest. Well last night I woke up sporadically with contractions, but that's nothing new. Then I woke up around 6:20 with an extreme crampy feeling. I went to the bathroom, drank 12 ozs. of water, and went back to bed. I drifted in and out of sleep, but was still having issues. When my alarm went off at 7:30, I knew things weren't right as I was having an almost constant pain in my lower abdomen with periodic surges. I stayed in bed for another twenty minutes, then decided to get a shower so I would at least be clean if I had to go in! Jason came in from cleaning the snow and ice off our van and I told him to take a quick shower because I needed to go in. I called the number for the on-call dr., but didn't hear back from her. I made the decision to go in regardless. I called again on the way to the hospital, but still didn't hear back from her. Apparently her beeper wasn't working or the switchboard operators were doing something wrong because she never got the messages.
Long story short, they put me on the monitors and I was indeed having contractions. The dr. came in and took a culture, did another fetalfibronectin (b/c the results are only good for 2 wks.), and checked me. Thankfully I am only a fingertip dilated and still posterior and high. The nurse gave me a shot of terbutaline, which provokes a great, jittery rush. That seemed to calm things down, though I did have one more contraction right before they discharged me. They gave me medication to bring home so if I have any more problems I can take that to see if it calms things down. My fetalfibronectin test came back negative, which is a good sign. I was able to go home because it was negative, but I am on bed rest. At least I made it this far, for which I am very grateful.
So once again I'll take it one day at a time, get some reading done, and hopefully let this baby cook for at least another three to four weeks. Please pray for sanity for me and for Jason and my parents as they take over the care of the boys, etc. It will be an adventure, I'm sure!

I'm so sorry to hear this, but I know that you're thankful to have made it past Gavin's birthday. Praying for you!

Hope all goes well, Adele! Praying for you.
Dellie - every time I see that "Tradition!" headline I get the song from Fiddler on the Roof stuck in my head. ;-)
I'm praying for you; I hope bed rest is going well & all those other matters are sorting themselves out. Love you!
