27 Weeks

We have now reached the third trimester! It's a little scary to think that in only three months we will have another little boy in our family. I suppose the fact that I caught the boys jumping off the back of a couch a little while ago didn't help!

I have been doing pretty well with my GD diet, though at times I'm not quite sure what to eat. The main goal is to eliminate as much sugar from the diet as possible, then limit the grams of carbohydrates eaten for each meal/snack. A person with GD is also supposed to eat throughout the day to help keep the blood sugars at an even level. The main trick, at least I think, is to try to eat protein with the carbohydrates to help the body absorb them better. I've been resorting to peanut butter and have also eaten eggs to help with this.

My 3 hr. test is next Friday at 7:30 a.m. I had to call on Monday to get the appointment time - what a shock! Obviously this office isn't very good about communicating with their patients. I'm supposed to fast for 12-14 hours beforehand, so I have a feeling my tummy will be fairly hungry by the time the testing is over!

I've actually lost a little weight since eating this way. I'm eating quite a bit (with the snacks between meals) so I was surprised to see the scale numbers go down the last two times I weighed myself. Maybe this is the way I can keep my weight gain under control!

I continue to plug away at drinking water. It's a good thing I was alredy getting in that habit because I have had to cut juice out entirely. I usually allow myself a half glass of skim milk two times a day during a meal or snack. For someone who does not enjoy drinking water I have come a long way! (Yes, I'm patting myself on the back!)

I'm feeling the baby's movements more strongly now. Once in a while I can feel a hard lump here and there, though I usually can't determine exactly which body part I'm feeling.

I had Jason take some more pictures last night so I'll try to get them posted in the coming days.

Thanks for the update, Adele. I was wondering when you were going to get in for that test. Sorry you have to fast for so long! It seems a little cruel after they've made you get in the habit of little snacks all day long ;-)
I'll be praying for some good test results!
