Maybe Next Year

I guess we'll have to save our trip to McDonalds for next year, hopefully.

We met the nurse practitioner, went over his past information (since she couldn't find his chart or any information in the computer from his last visit!), and I filled her in on his asthma incident. She checked him over, then proceeded with the challenge. We didn't even get past the first step. Eight minutes into it he had pink splotches and hives developing on his chin.

We're to continue with a daily dose of Singulair. Every time he gets a cold I'm supposed to start using the nebulizer twice a day for five days.

So at this point the Lord's answer must be "wait". Dr. L---- gave me some hope by saying the reaction on his chin was not indicative of a life-time allergy. Of course it's difficult for anyone to predict the outcome, but at least there's still time.

Thanks for your prayers. We continue to need them as the reality sinks in a little deeper.

Oh no. I just winced when I read the first line. I'm so sorry -- I was hoping and praying for a different outcome. *hug*

Praying for you guys! Many kids still outgrow the allergies through their elementary years - and our CHOP allergist always stressed to us that the severity of the allergy has little to do with when they grow out of it. Luke grew out of his most severe first, but is still allergic to a host of other things! I know it is so discouraging when they don't pass the challenge because hopes are so high - no matter how hard you try to keep them in check!

How is Gavin handling the news? Was he disappointed?

I don't think Gavin completely understands. He kept asking me if he could have the pudding and yogurt I had packed. I tried explaining it to him, but I don't think it sunk in. He kept saying, "My chin doesn't itch anymore." He doesn't understand that's b/c he got a dose of Zyrtec!

At this point I'm trying to not think about it all too much. If I do I just start getting teary eyed, which isn't good for Gavin to see. We'll keep facing each meal just as we have for the past three plus years - one at a time.
