I've been debating whether or not I should blog about this. I don't want to cause fear, worry, etc. for anyone, but I also want my friends to be informed!
My piano student's mom e-mailed me information for this site started by John Walsh and Julie Clark. When you enter the site you can type in any address and a map will pop up with all the registered sex offenders w/in a certain radius of that address. You can click on the colored boxes and it will give the address, a picture, and information about the conviction. You can also sign up for e-mail alerts. These let you know when Family Watchdog has received information that an offender has moved out of or into your neighborhood. I just received another one today.
It is not good to be paranoid or overly worried. Yet at the same time, especially if living alone or with young children, it is good to be aware. We have 68 registered and 11 non-mappable (probably meaning minors) sex offenders living less than 3 miles from our home. I have to be aware for the sake of my children.
