Oops!

This morning I opened the blinds to discover it was snowing. In spite of the snow and chilly temperatures, I decided to venture out for Gavin's weekly library class. I drove very carefully, going under the speed limit most of the time. I was relieved to pull into the parking lot, glad to have made it safely. I pulled into a parking spot, but didn't get in straight. I backed up and....yes, I hit something. I was hoping it was just the curb because I didn't see a car driving behind me. But then I saw there was a small sports car parked on the opposite side, difficult to see because it was lower than the van windows. Our bumper looked fine, though I didn't search it too much. I went over to the other car and noticed some cracks on the bumper, probably because the plastic was so cold. I thought, "Here goes the accident free premium reduction that's supposed to increase next time." I got the kids out, walked into the library, and asked the librarian if there was a way to page everyone in the library. She did so twice, but no one responded. I sent Gavin down to the class so he wouldn't be late and decided to go back out to write down the license plate number so she would have the information. As I walked out, I saw a couple using the phone in the entry way. Sure enough, it was their car and they had no way to hear the announcement. They walked out with me, he rubbed the bumper and inspected it, and decided it wasn't a problem. What a relief! Maybe having Peyton with me helped. He said it happens to everybody. I certainly didn't expect that gracious attitude!

Lesson # 23,679 - never let your guard down when driving, even when you've reached the parking lot!

I'm sorry! But at least the owner of the other car was gracious about it.
