I really didn't care who won, but of course my preference was the Bears - based solely on location. Jason taped the game and we watched the first half before he decided he was too exhausted to finish it. After he went to bed I went online to determine the victor. It saved me two hours of watching a game that had transpired the day before.
Anyway, I'm glad the Colts won. For one main reason. The quarterback's name is Peyton. Gavin kept commenting, "They said Peyton." Later, "They said Peyton again!" I don't think we got across the concept that more than one person can have the same name, even though he has a baseball autographed by Gavin Floyd who appropriately wrote, "Great name!" (At the time a Phillie, but as of December, a Chicago White Sox team member. But alas, I digress.)
We chose the name Peyton before Gavin was born. We knew it would be the next name we would use if we had another boy. Just a day or two before Peyton was born, the S.S. web site came out with their 2004 baby name results. Peyton was becoming more popular. For boys AND girls. We were not expecting that. Although we didn't know if we were having a boy or girl, we decided it was too late to make a change. Since his birth we've heard of lots of girl Paytons and Peytons (including the granddaughter of my mom's cousin), but only one boy Peyton.
So now, the world has been exposed to a strong, manly Peyton. He's won the Super Bowl and not only made a name for himself, but maybe also edged the masculine use of his name forward a little.
Thank you, Peyton Manning. And, by the way, congratulations on your win!
