In the Know

There is a part of all of us (probably the sinful flesh part) that often likes to be "in the know" about things. This isn't always a bad thing and sometimes it is a necessity, especially when parenting. Being in the ministry, we are frequently "in the know" about people in the church. I often try to stay as "out of it" as I can, which is why I ask very little about counseling situations, etc. in the church. Sometimes it is better not to know, especially for us ladies. Sometimes being "in the know" can be discouraging or disheartening. We've had three or four of these situations just in the last couple weeks. Our hearts are saddened for some who have received bad news, discouraged about some who have chosen to leave our church, and deeply concerned about a situation just brought to our attention. The burden can be heavy at times, because often we are the only ones who can help or be involved. There's no debriefing session, no talk-it-out time.

It is good to know we have a God who is all-knowing. He knows the past, the present, the future. He cares more about these people, our church, and these situations than we ever could. He knows the solution because He IS the solution. We do not get involved because we truly have the answers to all problems and concerns, but because He has commanded us to "love one another." Sometimes that love has to be tough. Sometimes it has to be tender. It always has to stand up for what is right.

When being "in the know" seems to be more of a burden than a blessing, that is when I need to give it over to the God who knows more of me than I know of myself. It is in Him that I can in turn help others.
