Perfect Pumpkins

Having returned home from our survey trip on Oct. 27th, we hadn't had the chance to buy our fall pumpkins yet. We don't celebrate Halloween, but I do like to decorate for fall and Thanksgiving. Gavin had library class on Halloween, so afterward I decided to see if any pumpkins were left at the stores. We drove by Walmart and didn't see anything. I spotted the Dominicks where we rarely shop and decided to give it a try. As I approached, I saw boxes filled with pumpkins. Assuming they would be too expensive, I decided to do a drive-by rather than stop, park, and then find out they were too much. Drawing nearer, I saw they were FREE!!!! They had just marked them that way that morning - no limit.

I loaded up our car, putting pumpkins in the back seat and in the trunk. Jason went back later that day and got some more. Gavin and I made bread, muffins, cake, and cookies out of one and I even tried soup (not impressed though). We brought a couple in the house for decoration and put some more on our porch. We took one to the neighbor lady we have been working with. We took about half to church and used them in youth group this past Wednesday. They had a great time with them - bowling, tossing, smashing, and carving.

So rather than having to pay for one pumpkin, God gave us a whole bunch for free!

Two years ago we got some free pumpkins also on Halloween weekend. We took some up North to Tim's parents for the deer to eat and, of course, he blew one up at my Uncle's house. (I think you heard that story). Anyway, what a fun blessing you got with all those free pumpkins!
