It seems we are most certainly going around and around, but not so merrily
at times.
As you may remember, Gavin was diagnosed with microscopic hematuria
(blood in the urine) last March. After several different blood draws and urine
tests, and a normal kidney ultrasound, all results came back normal. He
even had a clear urine test the beginning of May.
During the summer he began complaining of lower back pain and I brought
this to the ped.'s attention. She said it was because of his age and
activity level. He went in for an immunization the beginning of Sept.
and they did a full physical - finding more blood than before in his
urine. She (a new ped. b/c the other left the practice) referred me to
a urologist, who he sees this coming Monday (I made the appt. over two
months ago!). I also asked her for a CAT Scan, but she would not order
it for me unless the urologist recommended it.
Yesterday I took Gavin to Milwaukee for his 6 month allergist check-up.
During the exam, the allergist found a mass in his abdomen. Oddly
enough, Gavin has told me his stomach hurt a few times recently. The
dr. ordered blood and urine tests, which we had done at the hospital.
Today I will be making an appt. to see his assistant, who will go over
the test results with me and she will also be ordering some imaging
tests to be done the same day.
I am so thankful for this allergist. Yesterday we were chatting about
traveling and living internationally and he was actually very
supportive (if I could promise to bring Gavin home for testing every
year :} ). He ordered several blood tests back in the spring on top of
the ones the ped. ordered to see if the blood was immune system related
and now all the effort he is putting into this as well. He could just
call the ped. and put it back on her, but he is taking it upon himself
and his office to check into it, even though it probably has nothing to
do with his allergies. Because of this, I think we will get some
answers more quickly than we probably would have otherwise. Dr. Lustig
will definitely be on my Thanksgiving list!
Please pray for the urologist appt. on Monday, as well as the appt.
with the allergist's assistant. Please pray for us as we await the
results and further testing.
Welcome to our little Rice patty! My plans are to keep family and friends updated on our lives, to record momentous - and even some not so momentous - events in the lives of the boys, and to help me remember the little things of life when our patty is empty! Enjoy!

We've been praying ever since we got your email. I know the waiting / not knowing is the hardest part. By God's grace this will be something easy to fix!
