I'd like to share ten things that are really hard to miss while living outside of one's passport country, in no particular order. These times afford a great opportunity to send a card or e-mail and/or make a phone call to the missionaries or military members you know.
1. Holidays - especially Christmas, Thanksgiving, and holidays that aren't celebrated in the host country
2. Weddings
3. Funerals
4. Births of nephews, nieces, or even of friends' children
5. Significant birthdays/anniversaries of family members
6. Special programs/events at church
7. Award ceremonies or school programs for the kids
8. Organized sports/activities your child(ren) took part in
9. Bible study or small group
10. Serious physical illnesses of family members and friends, particularly of grandparents
During these times, upholding the person in prayer is a great way to be an encouragement and support, but don't forget to let them know about it!
