Trip #2

Although I would like to think we will not have to make two long trips in less than one week, I know this will probably not be the case. Jason is trying to schedule meetings close to home (within a couple hours) while he still has to work, but so far this isn't working out too well. Many of the churches around here are small and it seems their budgets are tight.

Yesterday we drove to and back from Trenton, NJ. Wow, what a trip! The boys did a great job, though the baby had just about had his fill of the car seat by the end of the day. He normally doesn't mind being put in it, but last night after the service when I strapped him in he looked at me and cried.

We made this trip because the associate pastor contacted us about coming for missions month. When a church contacts you, you don't say no! We found out they got our name from our mission board - apparently they do this every year. The majority of the missionaries they support are from ABWE.

We arrived in town early (thank you, Lord!). We stopped at a Taco Bell close by the church to change into our church clothes. Peyton had been crying about bubbles and bones in his belly for the previous hour (we even stopped on the side of the interstate because he had to go "really bad", then nothing), so Jason let him have some time in the bathroom. We got everybody changed and looking fairly presentable, then headed to the church.

We enjoyed a nice Italian dinner with the associate pastor and his wife. During the course of the conversation we discovered we had both worked in Ohio in the same ministry. So of course that meant we know a lot of the same people. My landlord while living there is actually the brother of the head pastor. Small world! Unfortunately I found out after the service the pastor was out of town. Not good news.

We had 45 min. to give our testimonies, show our video, and for Jason to preach. Thankfully they let Jason go over because some other announcements took longer than they had planned. They had a business meeting immediately afterwards, so we were not able to talk to many people and only a few signed up for our e-mails. Again, not good news.

We packed up and managed to get on the road around 8:45. We only had to stop once since the boys slept most of the way and we reached our door at 3:30. I drove from 10:30 to 1:15 and had to switch over because I knew I was fading. I was so nervous about deer because I saw five of them right along the side of the interstate and had also seen plenty of explosions (and yes, I mean explosions) where animals had been previously hit.

It's a good thing it was late when we got home because I was literally stumbling as I unloaded our stuff and got the kids inside. The neighbors probably would have thought I had been out partying, not speaking in church! The baby got up earlier than normal, but the boys slept in so I did get some extra rest and I was able to take a short nap this afternoon. Hopefully we'll all be able to catch up on our sleep tonight.

Thankfully we're going to a church only 45 min. from our house on Sunday. That will seem like a piece of cake after what we've been doing!
