Gaining Independence

Two of our family members gained a measure of independence yesterday. Well, I suppose I should note that the term "member" should be used loosely for one of them.

First, Dawson decided that while he was all alone in the den on his playmat he should make the effort to roll over for the first time. Hence, no one was there to witness this accomplishment. I managed to find him on his belly so at least I got some video and pictures of the result! His days with a lack of mobility are gone. Happy for him. Sad for me.

Second, Mr. Munch emerged succesfully from his chrysalis on Sunday. No one got to see this exciting event either. The boys and I released him yesterday on a bright and cheery fall day. It was definitely amazing to see this beautiful creature realize he was being given his freedom, spread his wings, and fly to the heights of the trees. What a reminder of God's amazing creation.

Two gained independence yesterday. I cheered for them both, but was a little sad at the same time.

Yay for Dawson and Mr. Munch! The last of our monarchs for this year should be hatching within the next few days. We also have a milkweed tiger moth that we think made his cocoon under a leaf in the bug box (or he's dead, we're not entirely sure!) but they don't hatch until the spring. Fun science lessons!
