A Reader Is Born

Gavin has begun reading 3 letter words with short vowel sounds. This is an exciting accomplishment for him because he's been struggling with reading the blend ladders on some of his pages. He would get frustrated before he even began and has shed many tears over it. He knows the letter sounds individually, but for some reason when he had to put a consonant with a vowel he struggled with it. I think after some patient effort on Jason's part and the realization that it's not as hard as he thought it was, things are starting to click. His letter pages now have three (and a few four) letter words on them and he has been able to read most of them with some guidance.

Yesterday he made the declaration, "I can read!" as we finished the list of words. His next statement was, "Now I can read books!" No small dreams and aspirations for him - he definitely gets that from his father!

How exciting for you all! I've probably asked you this before but what curriculum do you use for his reading/phonics? Chloe is starting to sound out 3 letter words with short vowel sounds now but I don't have any curriculum for her. We just do things on our own and visit www.starfall.com a few times a week.
