Dawson - Two Weeks, One Day

Dawson had his second dr. visit today. His circumcision is very nearly completely healed up. This makes diaper changing a lot easier! His cord stump fell off Sunday afternoon so now he can start wearing regular onesies (exciting to all of my readers, I know!). He can also take baths and actually get wet! I'm not sure he'll be all that thrilled by that, but I'm sure he'll learn to enjoy baths just as his brothers do.

His weight jumped from 8 pounds 13 ounces to 9 pounds 13 ounces - in just one week. I couldn't believe it. The dr. said he would have been happy with 5 or 6 ounces of weight gain! His head circumference and length both increased a half inch. His head is now 15 inches and his length is 22 inches. So overall he is growing nicely, which is a blessing.

No shots until his 2 month appointment, so it was a fairly uneventful visit for him as well. We go back in 2 weeks for another well-baby visit.

He eats on a fairly consistent schedule of every 3 hours. This means he gets up twice a night. I'm grateful for this because Peyton got up three times a night for quite a while. Gavin only got up twice a night for the first three weeks, but his feedings took so long there wasn't much time between them. I am definitely not getting an abundance of sleep, but I don't feel dead tired as I have before. This is a good thing since I have to be up and about caring for three boys!

Dawson is a sweet, contented baby. I am so thankful for his temperament, especially since we are living with my parents. As my mom has said, we hardly know he is around because he usually only fusses when he is hungry. He doesn't even complain when he has a dirty diaper! I feel as though I have been spoiled because although there have been various challenges with each one, I really have had three good babies. I know this is a merciful blessing from the Lord and not because I have some secret parenting skills!

Overall the adjustment to three children has gone fairly smoothly. Gavin seems to be handling the change better than Peyton. I think it is because his position in the family has not changed - he has been and always will be the oldest. Peyton's position has just changed from baby to middle and he has to find his new niche. He's definitely been seeking our attention a lot more.

We are enjoying the presence of a newborn in the house and the chance to snuggle, kiss on, and love him. I want to cherish each moment since I know this is most likely our last opportunity!
