Since we are now living with my parents, we would like to have a way to get the boys out of house in the evenings here and there. This way they won't get as much cabin fever (we are definitely not out and about as much as we were before) and my parents can enjoy a quiet evening at home, as they have for the past fourteen years since I left for college.
One day when I was in town with my mom I saw a little movie theatre. I asked her about it and she mentioned that the owner professes to be a Christian. On Tuesday Jason and I headed into to town to open a bank account and mail some packages, so we stopped by the theatre to check it out. They only show family friendly films, which are availabe for one week at a time. They were showing the Bee Movie at the time, so we decided to take the boys that night. The best thing about it is that the boys are both free with our admission, which is only $3 each. We couldn't believe it was so cheap. With as far away as everything is, we would spend that much just driving some places!
I have a suspicion that not all of my readership (vast as it is) is in support of movie going. To be honest, I'm not a big fan either, though probably not for the same reasons. My biggest hold-ups about the theatre are the cost and the fact that if I want a snack or need to go to the bathroom I like to be able to stop and start as desired. I also dislike the 15 minutes of previews they inundate you with at the beginning. If someone has a personal conviction against going to the movies, I certainly respect that. At the same time, I believe that not going to the theatre should also involve not going to the video store. I've actually seen worse things while looking for a video than I have in the movie theatre (which up to this point I've only done a hand full of times in my life). Anyway, back to our family night.
It is a small theatre. There was one man selling snacks and taking money for tickets (and I think he may have been the one running the movie too). There was only one room for showing a movie. And although the room could seat quite a few, there were only about 20 people total that night.
All in all it was a nice, relaxing (and cheap) night away as a family. The boys enjoyed the movie and even walked away with a free poster. I guess that's just an extra perk for going to a small theatre.

Tim's parents have a theater like that up north. They run one movie for a week and the tickets are really cheap. Must be a small-town thing. Glad you were able to get out and enjoy the night together!

Sounds like you had a fun family night! I'm sure these will be some fun memories for the boys to look back on.
Nathan and I were raised differently regarding theaters. We haven't yet made any firm decisions about how we'll do things for our family.
I feel the same way about it, though. It is much more "tempting" to rent an inappropriate movie than it is to go see one -- at the theater, you never know who you might see, so there's some sort of accountability there.
We don't go here because the minimum standards as staff members at our church requires that we don't attend theaters. It wasn't difficult for us to "sacrifice" in that area. :)
The tickets in Japan were $3 each, and I thought that was so expensive!!! Now we come here and a new release RENTAL is $4.50! I guess it's all relative, isn't it? :~)
All that to say, so glad you are getting settled and enjoying yourselves!
