We found out this week that we now have health coverage. That was a HUGE relief. The second moment of relief came when I found an ob/gyn practice (one of two that actually delivers babies) that is accepting new patients. There is a shortage of maternity care here because the hospital where my dad was born totally eliminiated their maternity floor in the last year. The third relief came when they told me they had a cancellation on Friday and that I could have the appointment. The first lady I spoke to told me she didn't have anything for four weeks, so I was elated to find out I only had to wait two days!
The doctor was very nice and asked me several times if I had any questions. I am glad she "accidentally" ended up as my primary ob/gyn because when I called the first time there were only two drs. in the practice accepting patients and she wasn't one of them. She went over all my history and we discussed my pre-term labor and bedrest with the boys. The thing I liked the most about her was that she listened to me and took me seriously. She is sending me for my regular mid-pregnancy ultrasound this Wednesday and she asked specifically for a cervical measurement. She said that will give us a starting point from which to gauge any changes in the future. She also mentioned she will probably send me for occasional checks just to make sure everything is still okay.
Overall I got a good report. The baby's heartbeat was at 160 because he started moving when she tried to get a reading. It was reassuring to hear a strong heartbeat as the other two times I've heard it it was rather faint. The only news I didn't like receiving was my weight. I knew I had gained quite a bit because I stepped on the scale for the first time this past week since moving. Big mistake! I should have been keeping better track because the Christmas treats I've been eating have taken residence in my body. It will be a miracle for me to stay within the 25 pound goal I had at the beginning. The baby still has to gain most of his weight! At this point I think I'll be lucky if I stick to 30 pounds and that will only happen if I am very careful through the rest of the holidays. Bah, humbug!
I filled out my hospital pre-registration form and dropped it off. I then went up to the L&D floor so I know where it is when I need it! Hopefully we will get to tour it this week when we are in town for the ultrasound.
I will try to post another update after our ultrasound this week.

God is so good and sovereign to work out all those dr. details! All in His plans, eh?
Don't sweat it about the weight gain, girl. I felt that way with this pregnancy too as I did most of my gaining in the 1st trimester. During the 3rd trimester I've actually lost weight or gained minuscule amounts (in the last 2 weeks I gained less than a pound!).
Can't wait to hear about the ultrasound!
