The Many Adventures....

....of Gavin.

My eldest son sure seems to have a knack for making my life interesting in so many areas.

As I was working in the garden, I suddenly heard a thump and loud crying coming from the boys' play house in the backyard. I went into it to discover Gavin on the ground. When he stood up I almost immediately thought his right arm was broken because of the way he was holding it. Thankfully it wasn't, but he did get a scrape on the inside of his elbow. Of course the cause was him standing on the kitchen counter - trying to climb up through the chimney of the house.

He got himself pulled together and I went back into the garden. A little while later neither boy was to be seen. I checked the sand box which is on the other side of the garage. No boys. Picnic table. No boys. Porch. No boys. Nervousness started creeping in. I began yelling their names. Peyton appeared from in front of the house. I was relieved. Gavin started crying for no apparent reason, but stopped. I gave them the, "You shouldn't be out here!" lecture. All of a sudden Gavin told me he got bit by a bee! Sure enough a red spot with a welt had developed on his wrist. With Gavin being allergic/sensitive to so many things this was certainly not good news. This is a boy whose whole lower leg swells if he gets a mosquito bite in the wrong place.

I tried calling Jason to put him on alert just in case I had to head to the E.R. or call the ambulance - no luck. I debated about calling a church member, but decided to just wait it out. I got on the Internet to remind myself what to look for and tried to convince him he had to keep the Clifford the Red Dog icy on his wrist. Not much success there. He was more concerned about being hungry. After checking his tongue I decided it was safe to feed him. He's now napping (yeah for me!) and doesn't seem to be any worse for the wear. Hopefully this will be his one and only sting, though I suppose those odds are small.

Parenting is certainly an on-going adventure. And to think we haven't even hit elementary school yet!
