Garden Greens

My garden has received some much needed rain in the last few days. I am very thankful because it saves us both time and money! Now we need some good hot days (which it seems like we are getting today!) so that all the little seedlings keep raising their heads towards the sky!

The lettuce is doing very well. I really need to get out there and thin it out. The piggies will enjoy those little morsels and I've also read they are good on salads. The spinach doesn't seem to be doing quite as well, but I still think we will get several good plants. The peppers, tomatoes, squash, and cucumbers are all progressing nicely and so far do not show much slug evidence. The flowers I planted along the front on the other hand, have been the snack of several slugs. As of the weekend, which was the last time I was able to give the garden a good once-over, the beans and peas were beginning to show their tiny heads. I'm still not sure the peas will make it in before the heavy heat hits, but I'm hopeful. Several of the broccoli seedlings I planted have little heads on them. Hopefully we'll be able to cut them in July though I don't know if they'll be ready that early or not.

It's exciting to see the progress. I'm looking forward to a good green salad from the garden!
