Pop Quiz

Here's a pop quiz for all you geography buffs (or not so buff). Please post your answers in the comment box. You may not use the Internet (or other source) to help you!

Which five countries border Slovakia?

Which major river runs through the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava?

Bonus Question: Which year did Slovakia join the EU (European Union)? 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006

The winner will get a postcard from our trip (aren't you lucky?), IF I have your address!

I LOVE getting postcards....but I'm doing good just knowing how to spell Slovakia. :) Have you ever watched the tv program, "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader"? Well, let's just say, that show can easily tax my brain. I never did very good at "Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego" either. That is why I love the internet...yahoo search, google, these are my friends. I never feel ashamed typing in the silliest of requests b/c there's not that feeling of guilt and stupidity that comes with asking a human friend a question you "should know" the answer to. ;)

I'll be praying for your travels -- especially after your last trip. (car accident) I'm sure your parents will make Gavin's big #2 day very special for him. :)

Keep us posted.

Um, Adele, like are you for real? No Wikipedia, no Google, no nothing? There is no possible way I can answer these questions, even with all the useless knowledge in my head from USA Today crossword puzzles :-) I'm going to take a stab at them (in the hopes that I'll be the only one to actually offer any kind of answers & thus the winner of the post card).
1. The Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Germany, & Austria.
2. The Volga
3. 2002
I'll check back for my 'grade' :-)

I forgot to say that there is absolutely no laughing allowed when reading my answers!

You are definitely the winner so far, Mare! You do have some right answers, BTW! I won't tell you how many just in case anyone else is chomping at the bit to take a shot.

Thanks for being willing to step out on a limb! If it helps any, I wouldn't have known all these answers myself before.

This year we didn't get any pictures of Jas & I w/ the boys. I took theirs before church. I planned to take some family shots when we got home, but Peyton fell asleep in the car. We all changed and even though we said we would get dressed up again, we didn't really feel like it later. Don't worry, I wasn't wearing anything exciting. :) I actually realized later that I wore the same dress last year.

Jessica,

Won't you take a guess (or guesses as the case might be),PLEEEAAASE!?

LOL, I would totally lose this game, so I think I'll follow Jessica's lead and just bow out. I think you should just announce Mary Ann as the winner already since she's the only one who's even answered, LOL!

I'll guess the last one -- it IS multiple choice, so I have a 25% chance of getting it right, hahaha! Ummm... 2004

This will be a complete slaughter as I have absolutely no idea.

1. Czech Republic, Yugoslavia, Austria, Croatia, Hungary

2. No Clue. I barely know names of rivers around here!

3. 2002?

There. I did it.

Okie dokie -- I just looked at a map. I couldn't resist. Is Yugoslavia not a country anymore? Did it change to Bosnia? I vaguely remember this now that I've looked. I think I'll need to brush up on European geography before I have to homeschool it! Haha!

THE ANSWERS:

1. Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Ukraine, Poland

2. Danube River

3. 2004

So, Mary Ann and Rebecca tie with three answers right! Arlene got one answer right (maybe you should have guessed on the other ones too!).

Your postcard will arrive in 4-6 weeks!

Yeah, thanks for the encouragement Adele, but I am VERY relieved I did NOT guess! :D :) My brain doesn't retain information very well. I think I'm a candidate for early dimentia. (sp?)

I got my postcard! I have it posted on the bulletin board by my desk here at work. It hangs right by my leather Uruguay patch that I got from JoAnna Harmon. They both remind me to pray for you guys. Thanks for sending it!
