Yes, I'll admit it - my birthday was Thursday. Although I'm not all too excited about the number I turned, I guess there's not much I can do about it. The fact my "bad" hip was aching all day after being smacked by a wayward ball during teen group the night before didn't help any. (Is that a run-on sentence?)
I did get to sleep in a little bit, but since my mom was coming down from Milwaukee (where she had been for a week), I wanted to get the house picked up a little bit. After she came, I folded laundry while we talked and she played with the boys. About 2:30 Jason and I headed out for our hot date. He asked me if I was ready and that he was going to get a new date if I wasn't, only to discover a few minutes later that I was ready and he still didn't have shoes on! Before we walked out the door, I asked him if he had a credit card to pay for his date! I guess we are becoming old married people. :)
We hit the streets, unsure of where we were going to go. We headed to the pet store first to check out the guinea pigs (written about below), then went shopping at Target, Habitat for Humanity, and a thrift store. Yes, I know, you're thinking, "Wow that sounds romantic. Not exactly my idea of a perfect date." Yes, we're old, practical married people! Actually, have two children, and you'll be using your date night for shopping too. Anyway, we bought some birthday presents for Peyton, some needed items, some pet items, a pet cage (a great steal at $20, normally $100 or more), and some clothes and games at the thrift store.
We then headed to our reservation at Yuri, a Japanese restaurant near our church. We had a buy one get one free meal "coupon" through our Entertainment book so we decided to take advantage of it. I LOVE eating Japanese food cooked on the Hibachi. If you've never done it, you've got to try it at least once. Jason got swordfish and I got steak. There were only four of us at the table, so it wasn't crowded at all. It allowed for some good conversation between Jason and I since we didn't feel hemmed in by strangers.
For dessert we headed to Baker's Square where we bought a strawberry rhubarb pie. We figured out by the time we ordered two slices and paid the tip, we could have a whole pie for only a dollar or so more. So now we're old, frugal, practical married people! It really was a treat and since we bought the whole thing we took it home to share with my mom who watched the boys for us all afternoon/evening.
We concluded our evening by setting up the cage and making the piggies feel welcome, which included Jason running to two more stores for a non-leaking water bottle. After he got back home mom sliced up the pie, they sang "Happy Birthday" to me, and we went to bed!
After all, we are old, frugal, practical, AND tired married people!

Happy Birthday to you! That snuck up on me...sorry I didn't get greetings to you sooner. By the way, you ARE frugal & practical (and that is very good), but you are NOT old! I refuse to agree to that one :-) I hope it was a great day for you and your men. Love ya!
