First Piano Recital
This past Friday night I had my first piano recital. Unfortunately only four of my current students (and one who took lessons previously) played. Three others had either other obligations and/or just didn't want to. One of the families offered to host it, so it was very laid back with only three grandparents present besides the children and their parents. I actually worked up enough nerve to play an offertory and a classical piece I worked on. I haven't played a classical piece for anyone since college, so I must admit I was a little proud of myself for doing it.
Hopefully it gave them a little inspiration to see what they can do if they keep taking lessons - and hopefully practicing too!
I found out right before we started that one of the grandparents plays the piano and gave piano lessons in the past. That made me a little nervous, but she was very nice. I was worried she'd tell the family to get rid of me as quickly as they could!
The kids did such a great job, with most of them playing pretty perfectly. I even heard some dynamics in there once in a while! A couple of them bopped along with the music. They must do that during lessons, but for some reason I didn't notice it until I was sitting behind them watching them play. It was actually kind of cute. I gave them certificates and a participation ribbon, and I even made up a "program" for a keepsake. The parents were all very appreciative (and proud, of course!) and they gave me three plants in a wooden garden tool box.
Now we'll see how they all do for their piano lessons today!
