Ladies' Luncheon
Our ladies' luncheon went well on Saturday. According to the extra copies I had left, we had 36 women attending. There were quite a few visitors, which was a blessing. Even on Saturday morning, I didn't feel completely ready to speak. I had the outline, verses, and illustrations all on paper, but didn't feel quite "ready." I just prayed that God would help me say it all as He wanted, because it just wasn't clicking in my mind. On the way to church I didn't think I would be able to eat, but once I got my things set up I felt much better. I enjoyed the lunch and was ready to go when it was my turn. Overall it went really well, and I think I get the message across for the most part. Some of the ladies expressed that it was helpful or encouraging to them and that was what I was hoping for. I made it very clear at the beginning that I was not speaking b/c I had conquered all of this in my life or that I had it all achieved. It was a learning process for me as well. My outline, in a nutshell 1. The tin man wanted a heart - we need to take care of our physical body and leave our physical needs up to the Lord. 2. The scarecrow wanted a brain - we need to renew our mind (w/ several subpoints). 3. The lion desired courage - trials and prolems can develop character qualities in our life and we need to let the Lord develop them in us. 4. Dorothy longed for her home - plan of salvation for the unsaved (to find their eternal Home) and for Christians, that our hope should be in our future Home, Heaven.
The tables were decorated in different colored tablecloths with bright plates, napkins, and cups. The lady who decorated put poppies (remember them from the movie?) on each table and along the wall she put yellow papers (as bricks) with promises from Scriptures. Then on either side she put red papers with, "Problems and Worries, and Care, Oh My!" (the first part of the title of my talk) on either side. She did a nice job.
