Usually Jason is the one to plan our vacations or to come up with something for us to do together (though I'm usually left with the task of procuring a babysitter).
For Christmas I tried to "secretly" buy some tickets to an NBA game on Ebay. I won the tickets by less than a dollar, which I was excited about. Because I was using his account, he got the e-mails at work. I was wondering where my bid e-mails were when I checked our inbox! At that point the details were still a mystery, but that didn't last for long either. When I asked someone to babysit they told Jason they could do it and the date (before I had even given him the tickets!).
So I decided I had to come up with something to get back to the point of the whole thing being a surprise. I came up with dinner at a fondue restaurant, something we've only gotten the chance to do once, in Quebec. I picked it due to the fact that it wasn't too far from the stadium and we had a great discount for the restaurant in our Entertainment book.
Although the atmosphere left a little to be desired, parking was easy, the staff were attentive and helpful, and the food was delicious (though we did cook it ourselves!). We did a "package deal" beginning with a cheese fondue with bread cubes and apples, then beef and veggies cooked in soy bean oil and dipped into offered sauces, and ending with angel food cake, marshmallows and fruit dipped into a chocolate fondue. The meal also came with garlic bread and a salad.
Jason was surprised and thoroughly enjoyed it, as did I. We decided it's time to pull out our fondue set again, though we've never perfected the cheese fondue (partially b/c the recipes usually call for wine!). After trying several new things at the restaurant, we'd like to do it again at home.
After the great dinner, we headed on to the stadium where we made it to our 3rd level seats a few minutes before the proceedings began. Having never been to a professional basketball game before, I will say it is rather fast paced and exciting and they have a lot of contests and various things going on throughout. One thing I could definitely live without are the cheerleaders who wore three different sleazy outfits and did virtually nothing but look cute, in my opinion. The home team won, which wasn't a feat since the southern challenger didn't seem to be too concerned about the opposing team scoring.
Next pro sports to attend - hockey and football. Maybe next year.
