Gavin has entered the stage of trying to understand concepts. At least I think that's what it is!
The other day he was looking at a little book that had pictures of him as an infant with different relatives. One of his comments was, "I didn't know I was a baby!" Later, as he was looking at it again, he walked up to Peyton (who had just woken up from a nap) and said something like this, "This is me (pointing to a picture). When I was born, I was a baby like you." Peyton, being the amiable little guy that he is, promptly nodded his head up and down in agreement.
Last week in AWANA, he got a little picture Bible. He was very excited about it and wanted to look at all the pictures and read the stories. They had a picture of the Tower of Babel, so we talked about the people wanting to reach God in Heaven. Their punishment was having their languages confused. A day or so later, Gavin saw a picture of Pop-pop. I asked him where Pop-pop was. He ran off, got his picture Bible and found that story. He said Pop-pop went to Heaven, pointing at the picture. How do you explain that? I told him those people couldn't go to Heaven because they were trying to do it the wrong way. Pop-pop asked Jesus to forgive him of his sins, so he went to Heaven when he died. I'm not sure that completely sank in, but as time goes on I know he will understand more and more. It is neat to see Gavin's mind thinking in this way. I know Dad Rice would be happy to know that his Home-going has provoked a lot of thoughts in the minds of his older grandsons.
