Musical Beds

While we didn't exactly play music during our bed transition today, it certainly felt like a game. Until the reality set in. Looking back, I think we should have warned the boys that they would have just one more night in their current beds. Oops. We bought an awesome loft bed off Craigslist this past weekend. The new purchase meant we had to switch everyone around.

In order to have room for the loft bed, we needed to take apart Dawson's crib, turned toddler bed. That sent him across the hall to Gavin and Peyton's room where he took over Peyton's lower bunk. We then switched Peyton from the bottom bunk to Gavin's top bunk. Gavin got booted to Dawson's room where we set up the loft bed.

Reality sank in pretty quickly as Peyton lamented his lost bed and all its benefits. Can you tell he doesn't like change? Most kids would rejoice to take over the top bunk! It hit Dawson when it was time for his nap. What to do with all that space and freedom! Needless to say he didn't sleep a wink. Then tonight as I put Gavin to bed he admitted that he missed the chance to talk to Peyton before going to sleep. I think it will take a while for everyone to adjust to their new sleeping positions - including Mommy. I have to admit it was a little emotional watching the toddler bed come apart for the last time. The baby era is over.

I'm glad we decided to do this now so we aren't making the adjustment when we move. We had already planned that Gavin will have his own room when we reach Slovakia, provided we have three bedrooms (which I'm trying to establish as a non-negotiable for my sanity's sake!). Hopefully this will be the norm by the time we move so we can focus on all the other changes that await us!
