Both boys (meaning the older two, of course) played in their first fall soccer game on Saturday. They both scored their first goal!
We were excited for Gavin because although he did play last year, he usually played defense and didn't get a chance to score a goal. He also had a girl on his team who was quite good and did the majority of the scoring. This year being 6 in the 5 & 6 yr. old group definitely has its advantages.
Peyton is quite good at soccer. I have a feeling we may have found a niche for our middle child. He is very natural at it - which I can honestly say because we have not spent hours in the back yard practicing. He seemed a little shell-shocked during his first game, which really suprirsed us. He did end up scoring a goal though, so we were excited. Then that night we found out WHY he seemed shell-shocked. He had a fever and mouth sores from hand/foot/mouth disease which he got from a recent missions conference. I felt bad that we were encouraging him to go after the ball and fun faster when he probably didn't feel up to par.
We're glad to get the boys involved in sports for lots of reason. Having contact with those in our community, having time with other kids, learning to listen to another authority figure, getting exercise, and learning about teamwork. All while playing a sport called soccer.
