Our littlest tyke, Dawson, is now walking. And soon it will officially be running. At this point he gets going so fast his little legs can't always keep up with him. He took his first steps at a local amusement park on July 9th (14 1/2 months). Jason's uncle, mom, and sister were visiting with us and Jason discovered this park offers free parking and half price ride bands on Thursday evenings, with the donation of two canned goods. We loaded up a box at Aldi and headed over.
While the rest of the gang was riding a spinning, twirling, make-you-dizzy type ride, Uncle Ron and I were waiting with Dawson. All of a sudden he took a few steps, then a few more. I was able to get the second group on video since we had it handy in the stroller.
After that he didn't walk a whole lot, but in the last two to three weeks he's been testing out his legs. It's so cute to watch him walk, fall (okay, that's not particularly cute!), and get back up to try again. The other day while we were at a rest stop eating lunch he fell on the cement and hit his head. I swooped him up to comfort him while he cried. After a short amount of comfort he said, "All done." and was ready to go at it again. I guess his stubborness and persistence is paying off in one area of his life!
This newfound skill has also developing into climbing. We've caught him climbing the ladder on the boys' bunk bed and I also found him trying to climb a book shelf. We may be in serious trouble with this little one!
Once again (as I've written before) I'm happy for him and his newfound independence, but a little sad for me too! My baby is quickly disappearing before my eyes.
