My New Little Shadow

Dawson is now officially crawling. I say officially because he's been able to move from Point A to Point B for a while now, but it was usually more of an army style or worm crawl. Now he's able to move knee, hand, knee, hand and get anywhere and everywhere he wants.

Baby proofing now has to be amped up quite a bit. Why is it that babies are so adept at finding the littlest crumb, the smallest piece of paper, and the littlest toys? He finds things I don't even realize were on the floor!

And now that the weather is warming up a little bit a new risk is developing. Bugs. Throughout the winter we've had the occasional fly, ladybug, or elder bug make its sudden appearance. Now that the temps are warming up we are seeing more of these. One day I saw something odd on Dawson's bib. Sure enough, it was a ladybug. In two pieces. One of the pieces was showing colors that appeared to be guts. I tried to tell him we're going to Europe, not Africa. We may be asked to eat carp at Christmas, but we shouldn't be asked to eat bugs.

Another new risk is the step that connects our kitchen to our den. Since originally the den was a garage, there is a fairly large step going down into the room. Yesterday while I was vacuuming he decided to follow me. Thankfully Jason was home by then and caught him as he was diving head first down the step. After being saved from that harrowing experience he proceeded to crawl from room to room as I cleaned. It was eerily similar to my one-child days, when Gavin would follow my every move. I guess Dawson figures I move more slowly than his brothers who are three and five years older than him as they run from place to place.

I must admit it is awfully cute to watch him figure out where we are and crawl towards us as if his life depended upon it. And to see his smile when he reaches his destination (which he usually hopes is Mommy's arms) is priceless.
