I can't WAIT for the election next Tuesday. Not necessarily because I'm so anxious to see who our new president will be - I'm too nervous for that. (I know God is in control and I'm trying to rest in that.) I'm ready for the commercials, news interviews, accusations, and ridiculing to be over. Elections do not bring out the best in Americans.
I very rarely watch any news, so I normally go to c*n*n to catch up on the headlines. I can pick and choose what I want to watch and move on when I've had enough.
First, I was appalled to see an interview of a man and his "partner" from California who have McCain coming out of their burning chimney. They have Palin hanging from their house by a noose. Of course this is just because of Halloween, nothing else. Does that mean it will be down in a couple days? I doubt it. And where are Obama and Biden? He came right out and said that hanging an effigy of a black man has a much worse connotation in America than hanging a woman. WHAT? According to statistics women are far more likely to be the victim of a violent or sexual crime than men. They just arrested two young men who were reportedly planning to assasinate Obama (and if they were really planning it they should have been arrested). Why isn't someone who is hanging a candidate held responsible? If my neighbor hung a dummy that looked just like me from his house I'd be calling the police immediately.
Second was an interview with basketball player Charles Barkley. I couldn't bear to watch the whole thing. He did have one glimmer of truth in the midst of it - we (meaning African Americans) need to stop shooting each other and get an education. Other than that, there wasn't much I could agree with. Did you know that you are racist if you don't vote for Obama? Barkley believes many American don't WANT to vote for a black man. Forget that you might not agree with him on political, economical, or ethical issues. And according to him the polls mean nothing because white people are saying they will vote for Obama only to NOT seem racist and yet they will vote for McCain in the booth. Perhaps. And I'm sure it works the other way as well. If we follow that logic we could also say that men are biased against women if they don't vote for the McCain/Palin ticket. Next he said that it doesn't really matter who the president is because they don't really affect our every day lives. Excuse me? Granted, he may never come to my home and impose a new rule, send me a personal letter with a check, or call me to see how my day is going. BUT, he does impact my future and the future of my children with the decisions that he makes. Ask the unborn who have been aborted how he affects them. Ask the small business owners how a president can affect them. Maybe a multi-million dollar athlete doesn't feel the pinches we do, but yes, a president and his decisions do affect us. Whether African American, Mexican, German, Italian, Baptist, Catholic, atheist, male, or female, Americans need to make their choice based on track record, beliefs, values, and experience. Not on skin color or gender.
Since I will most likely never be polled, interviewed, or asked about my opinion, you get to read it! :)

I agree entirely! Good post. I've been thinking of blogging something political, but I'm afraid of going off on a tangent. Your post was very well said. Keep praying! I am begging and pleading for this election like never before. "faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains"...keep the faith!

Ugh, I know -- I can't wait for this to just be OVER!
I completely agree with everything you said (not that you wrote it in hopes of everyone agreeing with you... but I just thought you'd like to know you're not alone!).
I just wish more people would vote for the issues; actually giving thought to them instead of blindly voting for one party or the other would be a great change for our nation.
