You Know....

....your child has become accustomed to living in the country when....

....you are in the library checking out books and your son turns around to look at a complete stranger and says, "I started soccer today." They then held a small conversation about it. (This would have been very unlikely where we lived before. Sometimes the boys would say hi to someone in the store and the person would ignore them. Such is the way of the suburban midwesterner - and I grew up as one so I can generalize!)

...you are in a small city (emphasis on small) and your son comments that you are in the "big city".

Now I'm not downing country living - even I've noticed the culture shock has worn off quite a bit and we're settling into a new normal. BUT, I noticed I got some weird looks at the nearby grocery store tonight when I took the time to lock all the doors before going in (I had my dad's car and the locks aren't automatic). Keep in mind that some people leave their cars running (while empty) when they go in. I haven't adjusted that much!
