Getting Settled

Moving is obviously no fun, especially when you have to pack everything in four days. But, I must admit that moving locally is not nearly as painful as moving from state to state. There's something about having to put every piece of your life in a box, then cram it all into every possible nook and cranny in a truck that makes it complicated.

Jason had been dropping off loads on his way to work, etc. which helped a lot. I had already unpacked most of the kitchen stuff before we left for ABWE. Then last week we packed up everything else and moved on Saturday. Besides my dad, we had six people from church come to give us a hand. What a blessing! One man brought a flat bed truck which saved us the cost of renting a vehicle and we were also able to load up the other vehicles and my dad's trailer.

Since the move went so quickly, we decided to take the boys to the local movie theatre (which I've written about before) to see WallE. It is a really cute movie. There were two things in it that I didn't like - if you want to know what they were you can ask (just in case you're trying to decide whether to watch it or not).

Sunday we didn't do a whole lot. We went to lunch at Hoss's to celebrate our independence. I took an afternoon nap - so refreshing. After church Sunday night we stopped by our friends' house to get a grand tour. They are a missionary couple on deputation as well and they just moved into a home about a month ago. We then went to Walmart and spent way more than we wanted to buying various household items like a garbage can, mop, soap, toilet paper, curtain rod, mirror, fan, etc. Thank the Lord for the government stimulus check!

Monday I did a lot of cleaning. I washed the den blinds in the bathtub and the water got so dark I could hardly see what I was washing! I also scrubbed the bathroom floors and some of the walls. It was a little frustrating to not get much unpacking or organizing done, but I feel better knowing things are a little cleaner. The evening was taken up with a church visit, but we are hoping to disciple this couple in the future, so it was time well spent.

Tuesday I got a surprise visit from two ladies in our church. One of them added a room onto her house and no longer needs her patio blinds. She saw we have a patio door in our bedroom so she brought them over for us to use. It will be so nice to be able to open and close them easily rather than the heavy curtain that's threatening to fall down. I got most of the older boys' clothing unpacked and in their dresser. I also spent some time catching up with "Anonymous". Well, she probably spent more time catching up with me than I did with her. (Sorry, R!) I got some more boxes, etc. moved around to the appropriate location so the floor of our den is a little more visible. We spent the evening at Zdena's for our Slovak tutoring while my parents took the older two boys to the local fair for a horse pull.

So that brings us to this morning. So far I've just done some general clean up and I got dressed (lesson learned from the surprise visit yesterday while still in my pajamas). We'll see how much I accomplish today!

You're so silly! I was happy to hear your voice on the phone. :) It was nice to catch up with you and after we got off, I worked like a little beaver and I don't think Tim noticed that I lounged around all morning, on the phone. I even forgot to mention that you called. I'm so glad that you have such a nice big place now. Everything is just falling into place. :)

It sounds like things are going well! Moving is such a pain & I've never moved out of town or state. When I finally get my house done & I'm ready to move I will only have to go 2 blocks! Yippee! Can't wait to see you!
