First Outing

Dawson had his first "outing" yesterday. I meant to take the camera, but realized as I was pulling out of the driveway that I didn't have it. I was running a little behind, so alas, no pictures.

We started out by stopping at the local grocery store to pick up some infant Tylenol in preparation for his doctor appointment. He got his first does of medicine, which I think ended up mainly on his sleeper.

We then went to the dr., where he weighed in at 8 pounds, 13 ounces. I was very happy with this weight gain since he was discharged at 8.3 on Wednesday. Gaining 10 ounces in six days isn't too shabby! Since I am nursing it was a nice moment of positive reinforcement for me!

The rest of the appointment wasn't too thrilling for Dawson as he got circumsized. For some reason this dr. does it in his office rather than at the hospital. I would not suggest this route, but since he's the only local dr. we have, we go to him. After is was finished the dr. told me he cut a little further into the skin on one side and I thought, "That's fine. I know it isn't an aesthetic procedure..." etc. until I got in the room. The nurse had me feed him a little since he hadn't eaten since morning and of course was upset. She then checked him and the gauze was filled with blood! She changed it and told me to feed him some more. After that she came back in and checked it again. The gauze was again bloody and he actually started bleeding more when she changed the gauze. She told me what actually happened. When they put the clamp on they cut one of his veins (but it will stop bleeeding in 12-24 hours she assured me). What a comfort!

I had no desire to look at it so I waited until my mom got home from work. Thankfully it had stopped bleeding and we got him all cleaned up again. We noticed another area of concern which we now think can be rectified with some care, but needless to say the whole thing was weighing on my mind yesterday evening. This is definitely one of those unpleasant necessities of having a boy (though I know some people don't circ. at all). I'll be glad when it's all healed up.

His second outing was last night. We took him to our Slovak tutor's house. Maybe this will help him learn Slovak more quickly, though he slept through the entire lesson. :)

So in just one short day he got to visit half the town!

Yei, Dellie! I'm glad you got to take Dawson out but I wish that things could have gone a little better for him. Aren't you glad your momma is a nurse? I would have trouble dealing with bloody stuff on my own.
Maybe he learned some Slovak by osmosis. You know, like when you listen to headphones in your sleep? ;-)
