Sibling Class

This past Saturday, despite the falling snow and slippery roads (which seem fairly normal around here when you need to go somewhere), we went to the sibling class at the hospital. I thought it would be good for the boys to learn more about babies, especially Gavin since he is a lot more aware of the process.

Overall it was a good experience for our family. I posted some pictures below. I was the only one taking pictures. I actually thought maybe I should just skip it, but I knew I wanted to capture this moment regardless of the fact that no one else was.

The highlight of the class, for me anyway, was the opportunity to tour the OB floor with the boys. This in and of itself wasn't overly spectacular, but during the tour we got to go into one of the rooms and see a day old newborn. It was so neat to see this little baby, so new to the world, and to realize that is what we will soon enjoy ourselves. Gavin and Peyton were both standing fairly close as the nurse unwrapped him and showed off all his features, but we were behind them so we couldn't see their faces. I really wish I could have seen their expressions.

Last night as I was reading a book to the boys, Peyton put his feet on my belly. He said, "I put my feet on your baby." Then he said, "The baby has feet too. ----Pause---- And the baby has underwear." The nurse had taken one of the baby's socks off and showed off his little foot - obviously that stood out to Peyton! I'm guessing the underwear comment came from seeing him in a diaper and the fact they were given little diapers to put on the animal friends they brought.

When Gavin saw me folding baby laundry Saturday night he started listing all the things the nurse said we needed to bring the baby home from the hospital. It was nice to know both of the boys gleaned a few things.

I've never even heard of a siblings class at the hospital! What a cool thing! Sounds like your boys really benefited from it. Love the underwear comment. You'll have to write that one down so you don't forget it!
