We are making progress in the potty front, though we have faced some challenges along the way. Just to warn you, this post might be TMI to some of you, but for the sake of looking back in the years to come, I'm going to write it anyway!
Overall, he's been doing really well with wetting. He still doesn't initiate it very often, though the Sunday night nursery worker did tell me he asked to go while with her. If we send him to the potty, he will normally stay dry throughout the day. He does have a hard time staying dry during naps and night time, so I think his bladder needs some more time to mature, especially for the long nights.
As for the other, well, that's been the challenging part. Last Monday I had the great idea of putting him in underwear with plastic pants over top. After changing two sets of pants, I put a third pair on but failed to put plastic pants over them. BIG mistake! After dinner Gavin came out of his room saying Peyton had pooped all over the floor. Due to saggy underwear, the fact that he moved around afterwards, and another factor which I'll spare you from, it was in quite a few places. Jason gave him a scrub down in the bathroom while I worked on the off-white Berber carpet. I sprayed cleaner, scrubbed, sprayed, scrubbed for quite a while. I got the majority of the small spots up, but the main stain didn't want to budge. The next morning I worked on the floor again and I actually think I managed to get it all up. Needless to say, my mom told me we have to use diapers or Pull-ups until he is fully potty trained.
Friday night we ate dinner at someone's home. All of a sudden I wondered where Peyton was. I discovered him behind their large leather chair doing "you know what" in his Pull-ups. Fun!
Sunday after lunch we walked himself into the bathroom. Success, I thought! Well, it was and it wasn't. He wanted to go on the big potty, so I helped him climb up onto the stool. Surprisingly, he wasn't going - or so I thought. Before I realized what was happening, we again had a poopy mess to clean up since he seemed to miss the fact that there are some things you can stand up for and others things you sit down for. We had the "potty talk", but it hasn't seemed to sink in quite yet as it happened again yesterday while I was gone at my dr.'s appointment.
As I write this, I can hear another "potty talk" going on upstairs, this time about not going poopy in your pants, nor putting your hand in it. Oh my.
