Gavin had his four year check-up on Thursday. His reward for turning four was getting four shots! Although this would not be a fun experience for anyone, he did a great job. After hearing a little boy screaming in terror next door, I was unsure how Gavin would respond. The nurse couldn't believe how still he was after being kicked by our protesting neighbor. I had explained to him how many he was going to get and that we wanted to get them all over with at one time instead of having to come back to do it again. He did okay for the first two, but when he had to switch sides, he had a hard time. I talked to him and reminded him that if he sat really still we could get it all over with and not have to do it again. That seemed to help, though of course there were still tears (hey, when I get shots, I want to cry!). Even though he was so good I had to ASK for stickers and although she said she was going to get them, the nurse forgot! Fortunately I had to talk to the dr. again about his urinalysis results (more blood present than before), so I asked her for something. She gave him a sticker and a lollipop so he was excited about that. He was proud to tell daddy that he was a brave boy.
He is right on track growth-wise for his age. He is at 75% for his height and between 50% and 75% for his weight. For eating mainly vegetables, fruits, poultry, and grains he obviously hasn't suffered any. All his growth is based almost solely on healthy foods. He should outlive us all at this rate.
He is so proud about being four - he wants to tell everyone. I asked him how old he is going to be next year. He replied, "I don't know." I told him five. But then I added, "First you have to get really good at being four before you can be five." It's really so mommy and daddy have time to adjust to their little guy getting so big!
