Season Finales
Okay, the point of this blog, is well, probably pointless. Jason and I don't have too many shows that we watch regularly, but we have a couple we try to watch if we can. Now that a lot of shows go out on DVD they can always be checked out from the library a few seasons later (and forwarded if needed!). Well, one show had a shooting this week, two other shows showed shootings in their previews for next week, and if you watch enough season finale commercials, there are probably lots of other characters getting shot (or blown up or attacked) too. What's the fascination with a character being killed off, maimed, or hospitalized? Is that all the writers can think of to pull us back in next week, or next season? Why can't they end with something positive or at least a little less gruesome? Something that will make you think, "I've got to watch next season so I see if that really happens." Like a wedding, a baby, a change in personnel or position. Now I must admit it does pull me in too. But it also concerns me a little. Do we really require a explosive ending? Are we only intrigued by death or the possibility of it? Bigger and better. More shocking. Wowing the viewer. Is that what it takes to entertain Americans? To entertain me?
