My closest college friends and I enjoyed two wonderful days together a week ago. It was our fourth time to get together with each other - seven ladies and nine little boys ranging in age from 9 months to 5 1/2 yrs. Once the weddings subsided (we had one just about every year until mine in 2000), I decided we needed to make a conscious effort to see each other. Thus, the idea for our annual August "reunions" was born.
The first year we met for one night at a hotel in Indiana. We all decided the time was too short and that the extra expense of paying for the hotel and meals made it a little expensive. We then decided to start meeting at Camp Assurance, where my friend and her husband are on staff. That is where we have met for the last three get-togethers and it is a perfect location. Each lady can have a room for her children, we prepare and cook our own meals, and we can enjoy the playground, pool, and this year, one of the camp horses. My friend sets up her son's wooden Thomas the train sets and the boys are kept busy for hours. Meanwhile the moms get to enjoy chatting time, reminiscing, and swapping of pictures (oh, and some yummy treats too!).
It is such a blessing to catch up on each other's lives, as well as to fellowship with other Christian ladies. Seeing each other's children is also fun - this year we had three new babies to meet! It is an encouragement to be around others who are trying to raise their little boys to love the Lord and to behave in a way that is honoring to Him. I even gained a few tips!
It was a little harder to part this year since I am unsure if I will be able to attend next summer. I do hope the group will continue to meet each August to regroup, reacquaint, and relax.
